How to curl hair with flat iron
Ever wonder how those girls curl hair with a flat iron? Well, today, I'm going to show you exactly how!
I use my flat iron ALL. THE. TIME. Its literally my go to styling tool and the reason is that it helps me save so much time, tame my frizz and create volumous curls!
In the morning, it takes me 5 minutes to do my hair using this method.
How to curl Hair With flat iron STEP 1: Make sure your hair is 100% Dry
First things first, make sure your hair is 100% dry.
There's no point of trying to curl damp hair as your curls will not stay. If your hair is still damp, it will do its own thing as it continues to dry and you won't be able to achieve the result you want.
How to curl hair with flat iron step 2: Use a heat protectant
If you're using heat on your hair, its imporant that you always use a heat protectant.
Not only will it make your hair look more shiny and moisturized, it will also protect your locks for the long run!
Without using a heat protectant, your hair is more vulnerable to damage and eventually split ends.
Heat protectants I Use
Right now, I've been loving Monat's Rejuveniqe Oil.
It's made from a blend of 13+ natural plant and essential oils that hydrate, nourish and protect your hair. And better yet, it's great for not only your hair, but also your skin too!
Because I have sensitive skin, I love that this oil because it doesn't make me break out. You can literally use it on your face as a moisturizer too! While I don't do this regularly, I know its doing nothing but benefit my face when I use it on my hair!
I use this oil daily on my ends to keep them moisturized and of course always before I use heat on my hair. Even though the bottle is a little more on the pricey side, it has lasted me over a year because you only need a drop or two with every use! So definitely worth it!
HOW TO CURL HAIR WITH FLAT IRON STEP 3: Section out your hair
They say the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time, and the same goes with curling your hair!
I always put my hair half up in a bun to start. First, I recommend curling the lower hair section by section, and once that is finished, take the top down and curl that!
This method will ensure you get every strand curled and help you not to miss anything!
HOW TO CURL HAIR WITH FLAT IRON STEP 4: Curl away from your face (especially in the front sections)
Clamp down on your hair and then flip the iron away from your face so that the hair twists around the flat iron and your hair ends point towards the floor. Slowly pull the flat iron down your hair and then pull the iron off your hair about 1 inch from the bottom of your hair.
I like to avoid curling the bottom of my hair for a more natural look.
Curl your face framing hair AWAY from your face. This helps highlight your face and provide symmetry on both sides.
The other curls, I like to mix in curling front and back to create that natural tussled look.
It definitely takes some trial and error to feel comfortable holding the iron doing that twist with your hands but don't give up! It took me a few times trying before I got it down. So totally normal if it takes you a few times to too!!
HOW TO CURL HAIR WITH FLAT IRON STEP 5: Use a Dry Shampoo or Volumizing hairspray Spray
After you're finished curling all your hair, I like to run my hands through the curls to loosen them up.
For that extra level of volume, you can finish off the style by adding a few sprays of dry shampoo to your roots.
This is my all time favorite dry shampoo!
Its fragrance free and benzene free which is why I love it so much! Most dry shampoos are so toxic. I've tried to avoid them in the past but I'm not gonna lie, its been hard!
I am SOO happy I found this dry shampoo, its a game changer.
If you want to save your dry shampoo for dirty hair days, you can also use a volumizing hairspray by lifting your hair up in the mid section and giving it a few sprays all around. (Take a look at my video below, I explain exactly how to do this!!)
A little goes a long way!
Well thats it! I hope this post helped you learn how to curl hair with flat iron! If you get stuck, feel free to reach out. I'm always happy to help!!
