Home Accessories List
Have you ever gone to shopping and wish you brought a home accessories list for ideas?
From personal experience, I know it's easy to go shopping with the hope of buying a bunch of beautiful items only to come home with pieces that don't work at all. You're then faced with an extra errand back to the store to return everything and now you have to start from ground zero again.
I know the frustration. But, today my friend, that all will change!
From years of shopping and decorating, I've compiled a list of home accessories every home owner needs, so now you never have to go shopping again without a plan!
Don't forget to download my free home decor checklist at the bottom of this post!
You can take it along with you the next time you're out and about shopping for home decor!
Baskets
Okay. Let's start off this decor roundup by talking about baskets.
Baskets are the perfect accessory to add to any entryway, bedroom or living room, pantries, laundry rooms and more! They're great for holding blankets, games, laundry, or organizing snacks in the pantry. I love that they add another texture and warmth too any space and are soooo practical.
Everyone home needs baskets, whether big or small.
Trays
Just like baskets, trays are also amazing for collecting things. You can place a tray in an entrance way to collect keys or mail. Another idea is to the use a tray as a way to create a small vinyette within a larger decor area. Check out this coffee table. A tray is a great way to remove that cluttered look and create sections within your decor.
Mirrors
Mirrors are fantastic for adding that little extra to any space. They're especially good in small spaces because due to their reflective nature, they have a way of making spaces look larger than they actually are. Place near a window and they'll bering extra light into the space, simply by reflecting sunlight.
Here's some pictures for a little inspiration.
I love placing a mirror in an entry way above a console table, above a fireplace or in that awkward hallway space thats difficult to decorate.

Candles & Candlestick Holders
Every home needs two things! Candles and candlesticks.
Literally one of the easiest ways to add that warmth to your space is to light a candle! I love getting beeswax candles from this etsy supplier, they smell so good and they help purify the air!
The second thing you absolutely need in your home is a couple candlestick holders. My absolute favorite thing is to go shopping for these at local antique markets. There is nothing like the joy of finding that perfect aged brass or silver candlestick in a sea of antiques.
If you're ever in the Lancaster area, definitely check out the Strasburg Antique Market. Its has floor and floors of beautiful antiques you can't find anywhere else!
Vases
Vases are absolutely perfect for so many areas in the home. Think open shelving, coffee tables, consoles, bedside tables....the list is practically endless. Style them with real or faux stems as well for a pop of greenery or color. They're also great just as they are, without anything inside. I see a lot of people style two or more vases together as structural elements. So so many different options here for you to try!
Unique Structural Element
For open shelving or coffee tables, Im always looking for unique structural elements. Finding these sometimes can be tricky but there are honestly so many options out there if you think creatively. I've seen people use deer antlers, a string of wooden spheres, a unique rock, or a shell...you get the idea. Look for something with a unique shape that contrasts with what you've already included in the area.
Here's some pics to get your wheels turning!
Plants
There is nothing that will transform a space quite like some greens will! Plants have a way of bringing a little bit of nature indoors and truly add life to any room. They clean the air and add that litttle touch of color that will elevate and transform your house. If you don't have a green thumb, consider faux pants! Thats my go to as I can never stay on top of watering schedules.
You can find anything you're looking for on Amazon, big or small. I've purchased SO many faux plants from amazon, at this point, I've lost track!
This faux olive tree for example, I found on amazon! Isn't it beautiful? In this picture, I had the planter stuffed with packaging and cut up cardboard boxes, but I later purchased some dried moss to top it off.
I got these faux olives stems from amazon as well! Used in a recent decor project.
Rugs
I've seen a rug transform a space time and time again! It really is incredible. For a budget friendly option for your floors, consider adding an area rug. Not only will it add some texture to your room, but an area rug is also great for covering up whatever is beneath. Until you're ready to spend a larger chunk on a flooring upgrade, try adding an area rug!
My favorite area rugs are made by loloi. I love them because not only are they well made, they're SOOO soft and durable. You can find them on their website but also on Amazon.
Lighting
Adding fresh lighting fixtures has a way of transforming any space. Swap out your old fan/light combos for beautiful chandeliers. Or consider adding sconces to your hallway or above pictures. Updating your lamps or standing lamps is a great option for a refresh.
Books
Another key essential to my home accessories list is books! I'm a huge advocate for reading, whether thats for pleasure or education. However, consider using books as decor!
You can turn a few of your books backwards to show the white of the book on some open shelving. Another option is to purchase some coffee table books for your coffee table. They're great not only for the aesthetic and practicality, but also for layering and adding different height to the objects on your coffee table.
They're also great on bedside tables! You can layer a few books with a candle or small bowl for personal items.
Throw Blankets
Throw blankets are the perfect addition to a sitting area, bedroom or family room. They add an extra layer of cozy and texture that we're all after these days! I found the most beautiful/cozy blanket from Target for our bedroom season. I'm in love! Target has some great throws and of course amazon is great as well.
Pillows
Consider adding layers of texture to your space through throw pillows. I like purchasing down pillow inserts and buying pillow covers so that I can take them off to wash when needed and also change them out with the seasons. Or whenever you feel the need for a refresh!
I buy my down pillow inserts from amazon, they have the best price/quality I've found! You can also find some great pillow covers on Amazon as well along with other home decor websites.
The key to great looking pillows is to purchase the pillow covers 2' smaller than the pillow inserts. This allows the down to really fill out the pillow cover, creating a full and smooth pillow.
Artwork
Just like pillows, blankets and rugs add interest to a space, adding in the right artwork can truly elevate any room. While artwork is truly subjective, find something that coordinates with your style and the other colors in your space. I love vintage artwork or original paintings. Those are my personal favorites!
If you're on a budget, check out Etsy! Etsy has amazing prints of hundreds of the classics by famous artists - and at a faction of the cost. All you do is buy the file and then send to a printer to print! Buy a frame and you have a lovely piece to add to your decor.
Curtains
If you have't dressed up your windows yet, now's your sign to buy those curtains! I love long drapes, not only for their fucntionalitym, but also for the extra texture they add to a room! I found these lovely velvet curtains from Amazon and they have completely transformed our bedroom.
Decorative Bowls
The last item I'll mention today is decorative bowls. These are also great for open shelf styling, coffee tables or on top of bedside tables or consoles. You can never have enough of these!
