Having an Airbnb home design that is not only beautiful but unique is an important part of a successful Airbnb! From years of owning and managing many Airbnbs, we've definitely learned a ton. Instead of you going through all the trial and error we did over the years of learning, hopefully this post will save you tons of time and research on your journey to a successful Airbnb!  

Tip #1 - A Themed Airbnb

Some of the most popular and successful Airbnb's are themed units/houses. Think European farmhouse, country cottage, cinderella castle, flying saucer...I think you get the point here! People love staying in a place where they're not only comfortable on vacation but also somewhere with a unique experience. These days, people want to stay somewhere that is not only comfortable but also instagram worthy, so keep that in mind when designing your space!

This room from a castle is just an idea to get your wheels turning. Start thinking how you can design your space with a theme that guests will love!

One of the Airbnbs we clean regularly for is literally shaped like a shoe. Everything inside is Shoe themed! The property was originally built by a shoe maker years ago but was redsigned to become an Airbnb and it does SO well as a STR! People love booking a unique experience!

Tip #2 - A Simple Design

Let the bones of your design do the talking. What I mean by this is use the materials available to you at the core of your design to create the biggest impression. 

For example, instead of thinking design by your decorative pillow choices, wall art and bed comforters, think of the fundimenttals in a room. The floors, walls, lighting fixtures, paint etc. Consider painting a room all black and adding slatted wood to the entire ceiling. Or you could adding paneling to your walls and natural wood beams to your ceiling. Take your time and carefully select tile, wood and fixtures in order to create a space that truly catches the attention of guests who are scrolling on the app.  

To make it easy for your cleaning crew, less is best when it comes to decor. A simple picture on the wall or a vase of faux flowers on the table is really all you need. Quality furniture and your core airbnb home design make the biggest impression.

In my opinion, it's a waste of money to invest in a ton of smaller decor items. Unless they are part of your core theme, they can easily lead to a cluttered look and that's the last thing your guests will want during their vacation.

Tip #3 A Practical Space 

When designing your space, another important thing to consider is how your guests will use it. How many people will be staying? Will your space be geared more towards couples or families? Will there be family gatherings during the holidays here or is the space geared more towards a romantic night. Thinking through the practicality of the space will help you decide where its important to spend money and where to choose a cost effective option.

For spaces that seat larger groups for example, you may want to consider a darker colored sectional or a leather couch for living room seating. Larger families often come with children and messes. With that being said, selecting a sofa that is wipeable or fabric that can be easily cleaned is important! 

For a smaller space built for a romantic getaway, consider focusing your design money on creating a spa like bathroom with stand alone tub and creating a vibe for the bedroom.

The main thing here is to consider how your guest will be using the space, why they will be booking and what they will be celebrating. Create your space with exactly that in mind and spend your money on amping up those aspects of the space!
